A funeral service to celebrate the life of James Manuel Threatt, 66, of Cassatt will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel with burial to follow in Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Amos Hann will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 til 8:30 PM at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. My mother certainly was horrified that I seemed to enjoy learning, often telling me, "Boys do not like smart girls." Her idea of a good life for me was to find some man to take care of me, know all home skills such as cooking, sewing, etc., and fill the house with children. Today, because of her, I know those skills and enjoy them. I did however, only have one child because of unforeseen circumstances. Three years ago, President Obama, freshly ensconced in the White House, appointed Erskine Bowles and Alan Simpson to draft a plan to cut the nation's huge deficit. In choosing reasonable men of two parties, Obama left everyone with the impression that he was flexible and ready to deal with fiscal issues in an even-handed way. The men headed a committee that came up with common-sense and workable solutions to reduce the deficit in an even-handed way -- both cutting spending and raising taxes.
The S.C. Bar Pro Bono Program will sponsor a free legal clinic in Bethune on March 5. The topic is wills, estates and probate, featuring attorney William B. Cox Jr. The clinic will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Kershaw County Library's Bethune branch, 206 S. Main St.
The Camden Business Alliance (CBA) will host its first Breakfast Before Hours event Thursday. A complimentary continental breakfast will be offered. The CBA has expanded its mission to include all businesses in the city and invites all business owners to attend.
