Noted and passed - Sept. 23, 2013

• Jerry Sandusky, the Penn State pedophile who was found guilty of molesting many boys who were under his care in various programs, has never admitted guilt despite overwhelming evidence and the unanimous guilty verdict of a jury. His lawyer continues to ask for a new trial for the former coach. Sandusky is serving up to 60 years after losing on 45 counts of child sexual abuse. Behind bars is exactly where he needs to be unless a bombshell of new evidence turns up.

We all know that in the global economy of the 21st Century, we in South Carolina are competing with Germany and Brazil just as much as we're competing with North Carolina and Georgia.

Fire fest will honor 90th anniversary of Cleveland School fire

The 18th Annual Camden/Kershaw County Fire Fest will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Rhame Arena (517 Bull St.) in Camden. Because of the Cleveland School Fire, the most deadly in state history, many laws, building codes, regulations, and ordinances have been passed across the nation to prevent this type of tragedy from ever happening again.

The KershawHealth difference

I have had the opportunity to experience surgical procedures at two of our area's most prominent hospitals -- Providence and KershawHealth. My first surgery was at Providence, the hospital noted for performing surgical procedures, and my doctor was located in the city of Columbia. My experience at Providence was exceptionally good. The hospital was first class with excellent facilities, professional personnel and an attitude of the patient being the No. 1 priority. Everything went according to plan.
