Among the animals available for adoption at the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter are Titan, a 1-year-old male box, and a female gray and white tabby cat. The adoption donation includes spaying or neutering. The music of the Pitchforks of Duke University, a nationally acclaimed collegiate a cappella group, and a past winner of the SoJam Southeast Collegiate A Cappella Festival, is returning to the Wood Auditorium of the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) for a one-night performance Friday, Feb. 3. The performance will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, military and seniors. This concert is made possible by Bob Sheheen.

We'd ordinarily favor a proposal that would bring a couple of thousand news jobs to South Carolina as well as a healthy capital investment and the potential to lure more tourists to the Palmetto State. But in the instance of a proposed casino near Hardeeville in the Lowcountry, we have to say, "Thanks, but no thanks." That's apparently the same reception the idea is getting from Gov. Nikki Haley's office.
Over 1,000 Camden residents signed the recent petition asking the City to stop this Y project and let the people be involved in the decision that would obligate our Hospitality Tax dollars for the next 20 years.
It is indeed unfortunate if the City has lost the opportunity to get free money to fund the proposed sports complex. Rather than point a finger of blame at citizens who have wanted nothing more than open debate, questions answered, and dialogue for months and months concerning this sports complex, let's get to the heart of this problem. How could the City allow not just a reported loss of an ill described funding source slip away, but how has the City lost control of the leadership of Camden they were elected to represent?
