Fame Jr. rocks the Wood Auditorium at FAC

The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) and Columbia Children's Theatre (CCT) are proud to present Fame Jr., a Camden Community Theatre production, Nov. 8-11 in the Wood Auditorium. The Thursday through Saturday evening shows start at 7 p.m., and the Sunday matinee begins at 3 p.m.. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students, seniors and military. Fame, Jr. is sponsored by Modern Turf.

‘A one-legged doll goes to kindergarten’

At about 6 a.m. on October 18, 1950, a baby girl was born in the Camden Hospital. Her parents lived in Kershaw County during the Great Depression and World War II and were members of Tom Brokaw's "Greatest Generation."

Baron DeKalb Elementary receives money for books

On Oct. 30, Target donated $500 to Baron DeKalb Elementary School along with a gift card for $225. The money will go towards books for Baron DeKalb Elementary school's media center. Patty Liegh, Baron DeKalb Elementary school librarian, plans to purchase hard-back books as well as accelerated reader books, and books requested by students and teachers with the donation money. Tish Lowe to Present Salon Talk in FAC Bassett Gallery

The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County is pleased to announce that Letitia "Tish" Lowe, whose solo exhibition "Contemporary Classics" runs through Nov. 30 at the Bassett Gallery, will present a salon talk, "Realism in the 21st Century," at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 14, in the Bassett Gallery. Hurricane Sandy proved once again that Mother Nature is always in charge. In fact, the number of natural tragedies in the last few years has been almost incalculable, emphasizing the point that man has little power when facing natural forces. Though nobody would have chosen it to happen because of a storm inflicting such cruel damage to so many people, it did focus publicity off the presidential race, and that was fortunate; the media coverage had become stifling.
