John Stokes

Funeral service to celebrate the life of John Mark Stokes, 83, of Bethune, will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Sandy Grove United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Gregory Skipper and Rev. Barbara Segars will officiate. The family received friends Tuesday, January 18, 2011 from 5:00 til 7:00 PM at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made in Mr. Stokes's memory to Sandy Grove United Methodist Church, PO Box 275, Bethune, SC 29009.

Margaret Williams

Memorial service to celebrate the life of Margaret Rebecca Cunningham Funderburk Williams of the Camden and the Lugoff area will be held Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Bethesda Presbyterian Church. Rev. Dr. William F. Summers will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service in John Knox Hall. You Go, Girls!

Doby's Mill Elementary School's fourth- and fifth-grade girls running club was recently presented a $1,000 fitness grant and $1,000 in Subway gift cards for being grand prize winners in the Subway Fresh Fit national video and poster competition.The girls, as a group, submitted a video detailing how their activities in "You Go, Girls" help them to stay fit. They were one of 10 groups in the state to place at the grand prize level. The $1,000 fitness grant will be used to make improvements to the school's nature trail, on which the girls ...

Girl Scout cookies go on sale across the country

The annual Girl Scout Cookie Sale Program, the $700 million, largest girl-led business in the country, is offering a new cookie and new packaging this year in South Carolina. Door-to-door sales began Jan. 14, and the dates for the sales at local retail locations are weekends from Feb. 25, through March 25. Prices remain unchanged from last year at $3.50 per box.
