Beckham: A first class program

It was a perfect fall Friday night in October of 1962 and Zemp Stadium was packed as fans eagerly waited for the contest between the two best programs in the state. Unfortunately the fans had to sit through the first half of a football game between two less than mediocre teams before seeing the Brooklyn-Cayce and Camden bands perform. B-C and Camden would soon clash in the state's band championship for the first place trophy, but an ugly incident at the end of the first half caused the football coach to be fired that night.

Pets of the Week - Aug. 7, 2015

Among the animals available for adoption at the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter are Jackson, a 5-month-old male corgi mix puppy, and Roxanne, a 1-year-old female domestic shorthaired cat. The adoption donation includes spaying or neutering. The shelter, located at the south end of Fair Street and managed by the Kershaw County Humane Society, is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
