First quarter elementary discipline reports show that referrals from classrooms and buses to school offices have dropped nearly 15 percent from this time last school year. Kershaw County School District (KCSD) officials attribute much of this success to the districtwide implementation of PBIS -- Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.

WASHINGTON -- When the Democratic National Committee circulates an ad attacking Mitt Romney even before the Iowa caucuses -- and long before his presidential nomination is clear -- one can be fairly certain that Romney is considered the greatest threat to a second Obama term.
Rep. Jim Clyburn of South Carolina, who was one of 12 members of the so-called Super Committee which recently failed to reach an agreement on deficit reduction, says he opposes the automatic spending cuts which are scheduled to occur because of the committee's failure. The automatic decreases in spending were intended as a sword over the committee's head to make sure the dozen members came together in compromise to do what was best for the country. They -- six Republicans and six Democrats -- didn't do that, and now Clyburn wants to change the rules.

I have listened to the vehement objections to the proposed YMCA project that may be built on the former Mather Academy site. The anger that I sense from the opponents to this project is fierce and contentious. They have every right to express their objections vocally and in writing.
• It was good, if still mixed, news from KershawHealth a week ago that January's financials looked a bit better than they have recently. The healthcare organization still posted a loss for the month -- as it has every month for some time now -- but only of $84,000. Compare that to $902,000 in losses for October 2013 alone and that is very good news. KershawHealth has a long way to go to combat a projected $32 million in operational losses by Fiscal Year 2018, less than five years away.
