Editorial: KershawHealth deal

If people in Kershaw County had their druthers, they'd probably prefer that KershawHealth, the facility that grew out of the old Kershaw County Memorial Hospital, would be locally owned. But in a day when consolidation and economies of scale are bywords, it finally became impossible, and KershawHealth trustees voted unanimously Monday night to sell the hospital to a company partnered by Capella Healthcare of Tennessee and the Medical University of South Carolina. A caveat: some might argue with the word "sell," since the transaction is a complicated arrangement, but in essence, that's what it is.

Miss. Danielle Montgomery, 33, of Camden, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 7, 2014. Born in Camden, she was the daughter of Anna Wright Montgomery and the late Richard Montgomery. A Celebration of Life and Homegoing Services will be held Friday, December 12, 2014 at Two p.m., at Community Baptist Church with burial in church cemetery. Miss. Montgomery will be placed in the church at One p.m. for viewing. Brown's Funeral Home, Camden is serving the Montgomery family.

Camden ART Exhibition to Open at Bassett Gallery

Camden ART will open its fall show in the Bassett Gallery at the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County on Thursday with a reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. before the opening night of "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever." The Camden ART exhibit will be on display in the Bassett Gallery until Jan. 16, 2015.

John D. Kennedy Chapter of UDC unveils grave marker

On Oct. 25, members of the John D. Kennedy Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) and Joseph Kershaw Confederate Veterans, as well as other friends and family members of UDC member Mary Elizabeth Pitts Hough, gathered at the Jeter Family Cemetery in Carlisle for the unveiling of her Daughter of the Confederacy grave marker. Hough was made an honorary member because of her service as histographer for more than 30 years.
