SCTRF to hold open house at Wateree Correctional

The South Carolina Committee of the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (SCTRF) is hosting its first open house at the SCTRF barn at Wateree Correctional Institute on Tuesday, November 20 from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. The open house will showcase more than a dozen retired thoroughbred race horses which are currently available for adoption. The public is invited to attend the open house to meet the horses and learn more about the unique Second Chances groom training program housed there.

Campaign money

Every once in awhile we take to jousting at windmills, posing situations that we know will never become reality but advocating for them, nevertheless. This year's elections, and the massive amount of money spent on them, spur us to do a bit of windmill tilting today. We all know, of course, that President Obama and Mitt Romney spent billions of dollars during their presidential campaign, but over the years, other races have gotten more and more expensive. Those filter all the way down to the local level.

Corrections & clarifications

It was incorrectly reported, Nov. 9, that bicycles for Alesha Hudson's Outreach Bicycles for Needy Children ministries could be delivered to the United Unity Methodist Church. While the bikes will be distributed at the church on Dec. 15, all bike donations need to come to 1434 Baldwin Road, Lugoff. Donations can also be made to First Palmetto Savings. Hunger and Homelessness Awareness week

Lugoff-Elgin Middle School celebrates Pi Day

Eighth grade students at Lugoff-Elgin Middle School participated in Pi Day festivities by designing their own t-shirts. Students had to research and record onto t-shirts four interesting facts about Pi. Because of the nature of this year's Pi Day, the first ten digits of Pi had to be listed on the shirt along with the symbol for Pi.

Finally Friday kicks off Cup Weekend at Town Green

The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) kicks off its 2015 Finally Friday Free Concert Series with a special edition on Friday on the Town Green with local band KT & Friends.
