The Camden Garden Club will hold its next meeting today at the home of Sandy Shull. This is always a special meeting due to the time of year. It doesn't matter how old someone may be, there will be excitement and energy filling the air with the anticipation of Christmas. Although there will be no program this month, it is a perfect meeting to bring prospective new members.
Another burglary in east Camden, another set of suspects. For the second time in as many days, the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) arrested two suspects Wednesday after they were caught burglarizing an east Camden home. According to a KCSO press release, a homeowner walked into her home and saw three people as they fled carrying a television and other items.
Trustees with the S.C. Housing Hall of Fame recently inducted Andrew D. White, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas B. White of Camden, into the prestigious honor society for his work in and support of the state's home building industry.
The welfare state is now omnipresent in every part of the United States. The federal budget is dominated by entitlement spending, with 45 percent of federal spending in 2012 going to Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare (among other health care entitlements). Simultaneously, states are struggling under the fiscal burdens imposed on them by mandatory entitlement programs: for example, spending by the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (primarily on Medicaid) has averaged $1.21 billion over the last three budget years.
The Duke Endowment recently awarded a two-year, $500,000 grant to KershawHealth to expand Access Kershaw's community network of care for low-income, high risk patients in Kershaw County, many of whom are uninsured. Access Kershaw is a strategic partnership between KershawHealth, Kershaw County Community Medical Clinic, Sandhills Medical Foundation, S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, S.C. Department of Mental Health, and the ALPHA Center.
