Saving Fred the gummy worm

Doby's Mill Elementary school 4th grade students in Amanda Cook's class engaged in a S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) project during the first days of school. Using a precise number of materials and a specific set of instructions, students had to work together, using the scientific method to build a structure the save Fred the gummy worm.

Editorial: Paying for projects

Friday, we published two reports concerning funding for upcoming or possible future infrastructure projects. The first came from Kershaw County Council's Sept. 8 meeting where Councilman Jimmy Jones presented alternate funding proposals to pay for making improvements at various county industrial sites.

Pets of the Week - Sept. 11, 2015

Among the animals available for adoption at the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter are Thumper, a very large 5-year-old neutered male Flemish rabbitt, and Sophie, a 6-month-old female hound mix. The adoption donation includes spaying or neutering. The shelter, located at the south end of Fair Street and managed by the Kershaw County Humane Society, is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
