A celebration of life for Mary Frances "Goonie" Coker, 85, of Elgin, will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 1062 Ridgeway Road, Lugoff, S.C., with the Rev. Dr. Charles Everett and the Rev. Dr. Mark Bredholt officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhaven Memorials Gardens, Hwy 1 in Elgin. A way with words

The Camden Poets Society (CPS), an affiliate of the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC), celebrated its 20th anniversary at the Douglas-Reed House on the campus of the FAC Feb. 7. Anyone who had ever participated in the Camden Poets Society was invited to attend. Notebooks covering the 20 years were on display along with published books of poetry. There was also a special display honoring members who have passed away along with samples of their work.

Substantial differences

The newly proposed city council ordinance -- "Should the City of Camden continue with plans to construct a recreation facility and partner with a third party administer the facility?" -- is an unacceptable subversion of the ordinance submitted to City Council on Jan. 24, 2012, that was signed by 1,107 registered voters in the City of Camden.

An opinion and some facts on Social Security

Social Security – With the 2 percent funding cut extended for another year, the system will lose billions. I don't believe most of the people desire this. Those who benefit the most are those who earn more than $40,000 a year. The few dollars that one gains each pay period isn't worth jeopardizing the system for future generations.
