Joe F. Myers, 66, of Lufkin, TX formerly of Camden, S. C. passed on Saturday, June 14. He was the son of the late John E. Myers and Margaret L. Myers.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Bernice Baker Kelly, 85 of Camden was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday morning June 16, 2014 in the sanctuary of Malvern Hill Baptist Church. The Revs. Buster Morris and Donnie Barrett officiated. Burial followed in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery, Westville.
Funeral services for Inf. Jackson James Hopkins will be held Friday at 4:00 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Dave Robinson will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3-4 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the March of Dimes.

It all really began with the Haile Gold Mine. The Eldredge family of New York – the Hobkirk Inn Eldredges – purchased the mine in 1880. The family owned gold mines in California, Virginia, and Mexico. Son, Frank W. Eldredge, was installed here as manager of the Haile mine. Frank's son, Inman, wrote that the living quarters at the mine "were a bit crude," so when his mother was expecting in 1882 his father bought Pine Flat from Mrs. William Shannon.

The Water Environment Association of South Carolina (WEASC) has awarded a $1,500 Legacy of Learning Scholarship to University of South Carolina (USC) student Tyler Kirkland of Camden. The Legacy of Learning Scholarship was established to encourage students pursuing a career in the environmental field. Kirkland,is a rising senior majoring in chemical engineering at USC with a 3.3 grad point average.
