Best friends looking for a home

Among the animals available for adoption at the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter are two dogs, Lucky and Me-U-She, and a kitten. Lucky and Me-U-She are best friends. Lucky is a tan female Lab/Shar Pei mix. Me-U-She is a black male Lab/shepherd mix. Both are 7 to 8 years old. The kitten is a 4-month-old female. The adoption donation includes spaying or neutering. Four new KCSF members named

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Foundation (KCSF) Board of Directors welcomed four new members to its ten-member board. The new members are Mandi Bonderer, an Elgin resident who works in the financial services industry; Bill Heil, a retired Lugoff resident an active member of the American Legion; Jack Rushing, a Camden resident agent with the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division; and Steve Smart, a retired Camden resident and local philanthropist.

Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office cracking down on sex offenders

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) is cracking down on sex offenders, specifically those who are failing to register or update the sheriff's office on their whereabouts. The KCSO is responsible for keeping tabs on all registered sex offenders in the county. There are currently 144 active sex offenders in the county, mostly men. As part of the monitoring, each offender is required to report to the KCSO. Depending on their convicted offenses, they may have to report annually, semi-annually or quarterly.

Good Samaritans

A bill currently before the S.C. General Assembly would provide immunity from lawsuits to medical personnel who are treating people for free. It's an extension of the state's Good Samaritan statute, which protects doctors who stop to help accident victims, and it makes perfect sense. Good Samaritan laws have been passed all over the country, and they allow physicians to provide services at accident scenes without having to worry about being sued for malpractice.
