Lugoff -- Mrs. Mattie W. Honis, 91, of Lugoff, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 5, 2015. Born in Lugoff, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Alie Ballard Murphy. Visitation will be held today, March 9, 2015 from six to eight p.m., at Chapel of Remembrance, Brown's Funeral Home. Browns Funeral Home, Camden, is serving the Honis family.

Kennedy M. Hagins

Camden -- Mr. Kennedy M. "Bossy" Haggins, 58, of Camden, entered into eternal rest on Wedensday, March 4, 2015. Born in Bishopville, SC he was the son of the late Tom and Mell Jackson Haggins. A Celebration of Life and Homegoing Services was held Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Three p.m. at St. Matthews Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery, Bethune. Brown's Funeral Home, Camden did serve the Haggins family.

Funeral services for James J. Gardner, 98, were held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, with burial following in Union Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Cameron officiated. The family received friends prior to the service from 2-3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Editorial: Gerrymandering

Here in South Carolina, as in so many other states, gerrymandering -- in which political parties redraw the lines of voting districts to suit their own purposes -- is a fact of life. It was done when Democrats controlled the state, and now it's done by Republicans. One of the nationwide side effects of gerrymandering is creating more partisan divide. Because districts are set up to be safe for one party, there's not much interest in candidates having to appeal to independent voters or those who aren't hard-line adherents of either party. Letter: Camden resident upset about The State’s ‘garbage’

Surely something can be done about The State paper throwing its "Extra" on the ground and roads. Several of us on Fire Tower Road have called and E-mailed its office and received no reply, just more trash. We've called the City of Camden, the County and Sheriff's offices to no avail.
