Camden Junior Welfare League offers grants, scholarships to community organizations
The Camden Junior Welfare League is now accepting applications for grant money to be awarded to 501 (C)(3) organizations specifically dealing with children in the Kershaw County area. Grants range from $250 to $2,500. The application is available for download at www.camdenleague.com and completed proposals should be mailed to CJWL, P.O. Box 578, Camden, SC, 29021. Palmetto Gold & Silver: 8 schools honored
Eight Kershaw County elementary and middle schools -- up from only two local K-8 schools last year -- were among more than 430 schools statewide recognized Monday by the S.C. Department of Education for academic achievement and closing achievement gaps in 2010.
The Pitchforks, South Carolina Heart Gallery opens at FAC Friday
The music of the Pitchforks of Duke University, a nationally acclaimed collegiate a cappella group, and a past winner of the SoJam Southeast Collegiate A Cappella Festival, are returning to the Wood Auditorium of the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) for a one-night performance on Friday. Northcutt to represent American Legion Post 17 in Oratorical Contest
Post 17 contest chairman Richard Lackey congratulates Daniel Northcutt as post-level scholarship winner of the American Legion High School Oratorical Contest. Northcutt, a home-schooled junior, will represent Post 17 at the Zone Four contest to be held in Camden Feb. 19. The winners of the four zone contests will compete at the state level. State winners earn a trip to Indianapolis to vie for the national title which carries an $18,000 scholarship award.

Dear Annie: My husband and I have been happily married for 15 years and recently decided to try an open-marriage lifestyle. We are doing this with full honesty and respect for each other.
