• Happy Mother's Day (plus one) to all Kershaw County mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, aunts and other ladies who help raise generation after generation of children. The recently formed Family Heritage Committee held a Mother's Day festival on May 3, starting with a parade down Lyttleton Street from Camden City Hall followed by a celebration inside Zemp Stadium. Reports are that the event was not as well attended as some would have liked. That's unfortunate, since mothers of all ages and kinds should be honored more often. We would suggest that not scheduling the event at the same time ...

The 4:30pm double ring ceremony was performed by Pastor Casey Wayne Mills. A reception followed at the Camden Country Club in Camden with guests being greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mitchell Watson of Columbia.

The Chamber Choir of Kershaw County (CCKC) will present its Spring Concert with guests Helen Walker and the Doby's Mill Chorus on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County. Accompanying CCKC will be guest violinist David Pazdurski on the Bach Sanctus in D Minor. Also included in the program will be a brilliant Et Resurrexit by Monteverdi, as well as works of Callcott, Gibbons and Vaughan Williams concluding with songs of America: Folk, Broadway and Gospel. The CCKC is directed by Dr. Susan Wyatt. Tickets are $5 at the door.
Nearly 100 family members and friends gathered at the St. Andrew Church of God Fellowship Hall on Red Hill Road in Camden, recently to honor Rev. Coleman Marion and Cynthia Hancock Watkins of Lee County's Spring Hill community for their 50th wedding anniversary.
In June 1994, I was appointed as a Kershaw County Magistrate. I began working in the office with Gene Hartis, who was the chief magistrate for Kershaw County. I found out very quickly that Gene Hartis was a person that was well respected by others who worked in the office and he was easy to get along with. This was also true of those that came before him -- no matter which side of the law they were on -- he treated all of them with the utmost respect and dignity.
