FATZ to host benefit for local soccer team

FATZ, a restaurant located at 212 Wall Street in Camden, will be hosting a pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 11 to help support the LCSC Kershaw 95 girls' soccer team. As part of the company's Short Stacks for Big Change campaign, proceeds from the breakfast will be used to offset the cost of tournaments, fees, and lodging for the team.

Among the animals available for adoption at the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter are Chickadee, a 2-year-old spayed female terrier mix, and a white and gray female kitten. The adoption donation includes spaying or neutering. The shelter, located at the south end of Fair Street and managed by the Kershaw County Humane Society, is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Albert Leslie Hare

Mr. Albert Leslie Hare, 94, of Statesville, died Sunday at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. Born in Kershaw County, S.C. He was a son of the late John David Hare and Etta Mae Hornsby Hare. Mr. Hare served in the U. S. Navy Armed Guard during World War II and later as an auto body mechanic in Camden, S. C. Mr. Hare moved to Statesville in 1962 where he retired from Black Pontiac. What the Bible says

I write this letter in response to an article in your paper entitled "Episcopal Church is right to recognize gay unions." It saddens me to read once again of supposed "Christians" approving of what the Bible clearly says is wrong. "Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God." Kershaw County Council Chairman Gene Wise is right in recommending to council members that they thoroughly vet people before placing them on the board of directors of KershawHealth. ‘Fire Stop’ extinguisher puts out kitchen fire

Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) crews arrived at the scene of a reported kitchen fire at Sherwood Apartments around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to find only a light haze of smoke, but no fire. According to a LF-R press release, an automatic fire extinguisher magnetically attached to the stove hood had activated and extinguished the grease fire before it spread into the rest of the kitchen and apartment.
