Lugoff Elgin High School student wins state 4H award

Cleo Lampert has always had a special place in her heart for animals, specifically horses. She started taking riding lessons at her horse trainer's farm where regular 4H club meetings were also held. Cleo attended a few meetings, and thought it was fun. At 8 years old, Cleo joined the West Wateree Ropes and Reins 4H club and recently joined the Kershaw County 4H Horse Club. Over the past eight years, her main focus areas have been horses and agriculture.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Frances Burns Williams, 92, of Camden, will be held at 2:00PM, Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Hermitage Baptist Church. Rev. Jason Fletcher, Rev. Mark Hopkins and Rev. Jed Bryant will officiate. Family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30PM, Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Frances' memory to the Arise and Build Fund at Hermitage Baptist Church, 814 Jefferson Davis Highway, Camden, SC 29020.

Carl R. Fowler, 91, die Sunday August 12 at Carolina Pines Hospital in Hartsville, SC. Carl was born in Camden, SC and moved to Plainfield, NJ and lived for over 45 years. He retired and then return to his hometown of Camden. He was the oldest member of the Gordon Street Church of God.

• It's a bit difficult to believe that President Obama believes he's not gotten a fair shake from the national media. The New York Times reports that Obama is critical of the press because he thinks news media have hindered his ability to advance his political and social agenda. In reality, national newspapers and television networks -- Fox excluded, of course -- have fawned over the president for years. It's hard to figure how Obama believes he's getting a raw deal.
