Woman’s fear of travel related to an anxiety issue

Dear Annie: Am I strange? I like to keep my house clean and neat. In addition, I check for items that may need fixing so the house is not in disrepair. Although friends and family think I am "anal," I do not feel that I am obsessive.

College athletics has become too big and too important, a behemoth that sometimes seems to control the academic process rather than the other way around. But that is what it has come to, and with the huge amounts of money being tossed around for TV rights to college football and basketball games, it's hard to see it going the other way.

Wants street signs back up, more

I want to address this letter to the people who have changed the stop lights at the intersections of DeKalb and Fair Street, the intersections of DeKalb and Lyttleton Street, the intersection of DeKalb and Broad Street, and the intersection of DeKalb and Battleship Road. Why have the road names not been put back up near the stop lights?? It was always easy to give directions to someone with the road names up, but now they would not be able to find Fair, Lyttleton, Broad Street, or Battleship Road.

Both parties go to extremes

CHARLOTTE -- At a time when the two parties usually reach out to grab every swing voter they can woo, this year's conventions were unusually obsessed with firing up the base -- the loyal voters in each party who are most likely to show up on Election Day.
