BES hosts celebrated poet in residency

Celebrated Charlotte, N.C., poet Chuck Sullivan taught poetry to students in grades 2 through 5 at Bethune Elementary School (BES in mid-February as part of the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County's School Arts Program. The program facilitated 30 weeks of artist residencies this school year, and is funded in part by the S.C. Arts Commission (SCAC), which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts. KCSD 2014-15 kindergarten registration still open

The Kershaw County School District is encouraging families who have not yet registered their kindergarten students for the 2014-15 school year to do so as soon as possible. All 11 elementary schools will be accepting registrations during regular school hours.

The Lugoff-Elgin Water Authority (L-EWA) recently awarded 12 Kershaw County high school seniors with $500 scholarships. Recipients were honored at the May meeting of the L-EWA. The recently formed Family Heritage Committee held a Mother's Day festival on May 3, starting with a parade down Lyttleton Street from Camden City Hall followed by a celebration inside Zemp Stadium. Reports are that the event was not as well attended as some would have liked. That's unfortunate, since mothers of all ages and kinds should be honored more often.
