KershawHealth celebrates community

KershawHealth recently premiered "What Matters Most," our newest marketing campaign and a tribute to the relationships we have formed throughout Kershaw County. It was extremely gratifying to see nearly 300 people gather at the Little Theatre in Camden for the red carpet premiere of the commercials and the accompanying feature video. It was equally exciting to see folks from all across the county and all walks of life united by the chance to see their community celebrated.

The election

Voters across the country stormed to the polls Tuesday to throw Democrats out of office. That might be a harsh way of putting it, but it's exactly what happened. The Republican Party, passed off as all but dead six years ago when President Obama was elected, gained control of both houses of Congress by increasing its margin in the House and gaining several seats in the Senate. And as South Carolina's own Sen. Lindsey Graham said after winning a resounding re-election, voters will throw the GOP out in two years if they don't accomplish something in Washington ...

Reader objects to editorial on FAC

I object to your editorial of October 29, 2014, in which you endorsed the actions of censorship committed by the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County in their current show. Institutions which ask an artist, musician or thespian to place in a show or to perform a work in a show must trust the integrity of the artist or curator to show the truth of his/her insight. If there are limits to what can be shown, those limits should be published as policy to the participants before they commit to the presentation. No single board member should ever censor ...

What is The ALPHA Center?

So many people have told me that they don't know what The ALPHA Center, is that I decided to write a column about it. The ALPHA Center, an acronym for "All Life's Problems Have Answers," offers an important response to local citizens wrestling with substance abuse; addictions to alcohol, drugs and tobacco; anger management problems; and a familiar raft of behavioral issues.
