Camden Walmart awards local KCSD schools with grants

For the third year in a row, Camden Walmart has partnered with the Kershaw County School District (KCSD) to sponsor the Stuff a Bus promotion, making the students the real winners.

• Penn State pedophile Jerry Sandusky says he regrets not testifying at his child sex-abuse trial earlier this year. Sandusky, who's awaiting sentencing after being convicted of multiple counts of abusing young boys, still maintains his innocence despite crushing evidence against him and the testimony of several of his victims. Sandusky isn't likely to convince anyone that he's innocent.

Falling on Fair

A post oak that stood guard over Camden Elementary School (seen to the right) for more than 60 years fell during the early morning hours Friday across Fair Street. Camden Urban Forester Liz Gilland said the tree fell due to a combination of root rot, compacted soil, pavement around the roots and strong winds from a passing storm earlier in the night. Gilland said that as the tree fell, it took a utility pole and electric wire with it, and smashed into a security light across the street, causing an electric outage at the school and approximately 15 to 20 ...

Funeral services honoring the life of David Lanier Cook, 83, of Camden, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Alumni night planned for CHS band

An alumni night for former members of the Camden High School (CHS) band is set to take place Sept. 28. Marching Band Director Robert Spitler is seeking to bring together alumni to play with the current CHS band and perform the school's fight song, alma mater, among others. Voter suppression laws (bills) threaten true equality

I am appalled by the number of states across America who have introduced "voter suppression bills." About a dozen states are actively pushing legislation that would make it more difficult for college students, the elderly, disabled, and minorities to vote. It is sad that these state legislators have abandoned a real concern to ensure that all Americans are afforded the right to vote. Instead, these legislators are introducing measures to make the voting process more difficult.
