Something to think about

To say, "I am an American" makes us all equal as citizens no matter from what country our ancestors came -- whether Ireland or Germany or Russia or Africa or any other place. It is good to know our heritage and be blessed by it; but when we become citizens of the United States of America, we become Americans. It should stand first in our allegiance and first in our identification. How can we stand together if we place another country first in identifying who we are? To do this is to separate ourselves from other Americans. Something to think about.

I do not consider myself an alarmist nor do I normally get overly excited about things, but there is definitely cause for concern regarding a recent find in town. Blue light blitz

We're glad to see law enforcement officers, especially state troopers, blanketing Kershaw County roadways this week in an effort to help stem a disturbing trend in traffic-related deaths this year. From today through Saturday, troopers will saturate the area, and they will be assisted by cooperating officers from the Camden Police Department, Kershaw County Sheriff's Office and Elgin Police Department.
