Lois Heiney

A graveside funeral service for Lois Ann Groves Heiney, of Lake Wateree, SC, will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 W. Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC. Rev. Dr. Leonard Carson will preside. Mrs. Heiney, wife of Edwin Floyd Heiney, died Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Born in Rose Hill, NC, she was the daughter of the late Lillian Groves and Walter Elwood Groves. Lois Ann was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother.

Lassiree Mozelle White

Mrs. Lassiree Mozelle White, 71, of 238 Lachicotte Road, Lugoff, entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 31, 2012. Born in Ridgeway, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Alice Martin White, and wife of Caleb J. White. A Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, at Rock Hill Baptist Church, with burial in church cemetery, Ridgeway. Brown's Funeral Home, Camden, is serving the White family.

On a memorable day for them in 1920, Luke and Ella Catoe McLaughlin welcomed their fourth child and only daughter, Annie B., into the world. The McLaughlins then lived on their farm in the Sandy Grove area of the greater Cassatt community. Cassatt was their post office.

• Bad news seems to arrive in clumps when it comes to climate change, and the latest findings about sea ice in the Arctic are bleak; the ice level there has shrunk to its lowest level on record. A diminishing ice sheet has all sorts of unpleasant implications for the future, including exacerbating the warming of the atmosphere. Few people have answers, but no longer is there much question about whether global warming is taking place.

Man sentenced for sexually assaulting daughters

In mid-June, Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) investigators arrested 36-year-old Michael Browning for allegedly sexually abusing his own daughters. Browning pled guilty Wednesday and will spend the next 25 years in prison.
