Going green
Camden Urban Forester Liz Gilland (far left) applies water as a work crew prepares to lower the first of eight oak trees Monday into the interior of the city's new Town Green. Three more oaks were planted that morning; four more were expected to be planted today. Another 12 trees of various types will be planted in outlying areas of the green, expected to be completed by March 24.

KH leadership team restructured, expanded
At Monday's meeting of the KershawHealth of Board Trustees, members and hospital administrators said good-bye and expressed thanks to Don Trippell. Trippell served as KershawHealth's vice president and chief financial officer for approximately one year. He is returning to his former position as chief financial officer for Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin, N.C.

Taylor Reedy Jr., 52, of Lugoff, died Monday, January 24, 2011. He was born in Savannah, Ga., on February 16, 1958 to the late Taylor Reedy, Sr. and Carrie (Singleton) Reedy.

Security important across the board
We at Let Freedom Ring do want to publicly state what happened to Congresswoman Giffords and everyone in attendance at the "Meet the Congresswoman" event at a Safeway Grocery store in Tucson on Jan. 8 was a tragedy and we pray for the full recovery of all who were wounded and pray for the families of those who were slain. I ask the local Tea Party to also make similar public sentiments.

CHS 4 x 100-relay team third in AAA state meet

She was born in Philippi, WV, August 14, 1922, a daughter of the late Herbert Edward Golden and Grayce Booth Golden.
Jak Smyrl collection purchased by USC library
The University of South Carolina (USC) Libraries is now home to a collection of more than 5,000 images, plus correspondence, sketchbooks, and even early elementary-school artwork Camden's Oscar Jackson "Jak" Smyrl, The State newspaper's first staff artist, who passed away in 2007.
CHS to honor student-athletes at banquet
The Camden High School Athletic Banquet will be held on Tuesday, May 21, in the school gymnasium.
