Funeral Services for Ben T. Collins, 67, of Elgin, will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Ken Jackson and Rev. Charles L. Gotto (Chuck) died Christmas morning, of Nazareth, Penn. and Camden, S.C., at 8:25 two days after his 94 birthday at Cool Springs Place,in Franklin Tennessee. Charles and his wife Mary had been living in Brentwood,Tennessee with their daughter,Ouida and son-in-law,Buzz Arledge since November 3,where Mary will continue to reside. A memorial service and burial in Quaker Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Mental Health America of Kershaw County held its 48th annual membership dinner meeting, Nov. 11, in the fellowship center at First Baptist in Camden. The speaker was John Brown, a mental health specialist and an Episcopal priest who is a chaplain with Columbia Area Mental Health Clinic. He was introduced by Richard Guess, executive director of Santee-Wateree Community Mental Health Center in Sumter.

County government shut down for five days

It's the holidays and everyone enjoys being off of work and spending time with their family. So naturally the courthouse and Kershaw County offices were closed for five days straight. What? Yes, they were closed Dec. 23-27. Let me think … what holiday is the 27th? Oh yeah, it's the Monday after Christmas. Everyone celebrates that holiday, right? Even the banks can't close for more than three days in a row.
