Poetry Alive

Third- and fourth-grade students at Lugoff Elementary School recently had the opportunity to take part in Poetry Alive. Ken and Nadine Delano demonstrated how to take a simple poem and make it come alive. The fourth- grade students in Tonya Seay's class enjoyed getting to act out a poem in front of their peers. Poetry Alive was brought to Lugoff Elementary School through the Artist in Residency program of Kershaw County.

CMA hazing trial continues in Columbia

A federal jury is hearing testimony this week as the trial begins of a lawsuit brought against Camden Military Academy (CMA). In the trial's first days, attorneys for a former cadet have brought forward testimony and evidence they say show that, in 2008, other CMA students raped the then 13-year-old boy, according to news reports. The former cadet, listed in the lawsuit only as "JBC," is now 18.
