Willis U. Arthur, Jr.

Willis U. Arthur, Jr., formerly of Camden, SC passed away April 27, 2013. He was born November 13, 1925, in Aiken, SC to Willis Uriah Arthur, Sr. and Iva Lee Redd Taylor Arthur as the youngest of eleven siblings. After serving in the US Army Air Corps during World War II, Willis graduated from the University of SC with a mechanical engineering degree. He spent his entire career with DuPont starting at the Savannah River Plant in Aiken and then the May Plant in Camden.

L-EMS Poetry Jam

Recently, the staff and students of Lugoff-Elgin Middle School held the 1st annual Open Mic Poetry Jam during all lunches. Mrs. Anne Lemieux and Mrs. Elaine Dorsey coordinated this effort to celebrate Poetry Month and Poem in your Pocket Day. Students and staff recited original poetry as well as published works by authors such as Shel Sliverstein, Walt Whitman, Edgar Allen Poe and more. The school thanked its 76 volunteers who recited poetry.
