• In the wake of revelations that some NFL teams paid bonuses to defensive players for delivering such hard hits that offensive players were knocked out of games, it would be naïve for anyone to believe this is a new wrinkle. But league commissioner Roger Goodell needs to deal with this and put an end to it, especially in light of all the recent revelations about brain damage caused by repeated blows to the head.

William "Bill" Holcomb

A graveside service for William Sanford "Bill" Holcomb, 84, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 9, in Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Holocomb died Wednesday, march 7. Born in Ripley, TN. He was the son of the late John Furman and Susie McKee Holcomb. He retired as a car salesman and attended Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Mr. Holcomb enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also served his county in the United States Army.
