• We note with regret the recent death of torch singer Etta James, whose rendition of "At Last" has never been equaled. The versatile singer had a dreamy voice, and the song, first made famous during the Big Band era by Glenn Miller, was perfect for her. James carved out an enviable career and will be long remembered.

FAC to hold auditions for Aladdin

Auditions for Aladdin, a collaboration with the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) and Columbia Children's Theatre will be held Tuesday, Feb. 7 and Thursday, Feb. 9 in the Wood Auditorium at the FAC from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aladdin will be co-directed by Jerry Stevenson, artistic director of the Columbia Children's Theatre and Candace Fuller, who was assistant director of last fall's production of Zombie Prom. All children ages 6 to 18 are encouraged to come and participate. There is no audition fee.
