Kershaw County Farmers’ Market to hold vendor meeting Tuesday

Anyone interested in becoming a vendor in the Kershaw County Farmers' Market (KCFM) is invited to attend an open house at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday at 634 W. Dekalb St. in Camden in the Homemakers Building, adjacent to the Camden Clemson Extension office.

2012 Heritage Tea winners announced

On Sunday, February 19 in the Wood Auditorium of the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) awards were presented to Kershaw County students who participated in the 2012 Heritage Tea. Students in grades three through eight from across the county worked on projects reflective of cultural heroes and legends in celebration of Black History Month in an art project competition. Awards were presented to all winners and the teachers of 1st place winners. Funeral service with full military honors for Robert Hall Minges, 75, Lugoff, will be held Friday at 12:30 p.m. at Rowan Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia. The Rev. Phil McCoy will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Pets of the Week - March 16, 2012

Among the animals available for adoption at the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter are Kent, a 10-month-old chow mix puppy, and a male black and white domestic medium-haired kitten. The adoption donation includes spaying or neutering. The shelter, located at the south end of Fair Street and managed by the Kershaw County Humane Society, is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Carwash to benefit Camden family

Students at Camden High School have organized a car wash to take place Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Tractor Supply parking lot, behind Walmart. All proceeds from the car wash will go to buy clothes for the Alexander family, who recently lost their home and belongings in a house fire. Donations will be accepted at the car wash as well as Camden High School.

I recently attended the National League of Cities conference. This annual event, attended by representatives from thousands of cities, provides local leaders with resources, contacts and continuing education. Reader: focus on dog owners, not breeds

Regarding your editorial in the Nov. 14 C-I regarding "Pit Bulls," I was disappointed that you chose to use the two recent incidents in Kershaw County as an opportunity to condemn a particular breed of dog, instead of focusing attention on the actual problem, which is the lack of responsible pet ownership. This would have been an appropriate time to support the passage and vigorous enforcement of laws that focus, not on breed, but on people's responsibility for their dogs' behavior. These include measures that hold owners of all dogs accountable for properly housing, supervising and controlling their dogs ...
