KCSO tracks, arrests burglary suspect

Using bloodhounds, Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies tracked and arrested Ronald Outen, 34, and charged him with second degree burglary and third degree assault Tuesday after he broke into a woman's home on Roberts Road in Elgin and assaulted her.

Celebrating 102 years

Ms. Hazel Scheidt of Lugoff celebrated her 102nd birthday with friends and family April 6 at Southwinds Assisted Living Facility in Lugoff. In honor of her birthday, Scheidt's daughter, Betty Ann Cymansky and the Southwinds staff made cake and refreshments to mark the occasion. Originally from New Jersey, Scheidt has four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Kershaw County Farmers Market opens Saturday

The Kershaw County Farmers Market opens Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. The market is located behind First Community Bank in Downtown Camden. Music will be provided by Jeff Clark and Paul Hayes. Come shop the market for Certified S.C. products, fresh produce, meats, seafood, plants, and more. KCFM will be open every Saturday through Nov. 17.

United Way conducts Be A Bunny program for the 11th year

The United Way "Be A Bunny" program enlists people from the community to fill Easter baskets for individuals representing three United Way agencies, the Council on Aging, Family Resource Center and the Board of Disabilities and Special Needs, as well as 132 children from the Kershaw County School District.

Among the animals available for adoption at the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter are Xander, 1 3-year-old male Siberian Husky dog who's friendly and likes to talk, and a male black and white domestic shorthaired cat. The adoption donation includes spaying or neutering. The shelter, located at the south end of Fair Street and managed by the Kershaw County Humane Society, is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Romney’s road ahead

There's a long history in this country of major-party presidential candidates bending to the left (if they're Democrats) or to the right (Republicans) to win their parties' nominations, and then swinging back toward the center during the general election that determines who will occupy the White House for the next four years. That's probably what we're going to see now that Rick Santorum has given up his campaign, opening the door for Mitt Romney to become the Republican nominee.
