‘School Tools’ now open for business

For more than 10 years, Kershaw County residents have helped provide school supplies for more than 2,000 local needy students through the district's "School Tools" program. In order to make it more convenient for persons to participate this year, a special account has been set up at First Citizens Bank where donations can be dropped off or sent through the mail.

Students awarded James and Nell Smith Scholarships

Seven students were awarded the James and Nell Smith Scholarship for the 2013 academic school year. Trinity Baptist Church of Lugoff administers the scholarships and selects recipients based on the qualifications expressed by James and Nell Smith. Students receive scholarships based on their academic standing, active membership in a Kershaw Baptist Association church and need. Scholarship recipients must also attend college in South Carolina.

Raymond Norwood Hall, 79, of Bethune died Sunday, July 14, 2013. He was born in Bethune, the son of the late Harrison Reese Hall and Edna Baker Hall. Mr. Hall was a member of Sandy Grove United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Frankye C. Hull, 77, was born on Nov. 4, 1935, in Camden, SC, and passed into eternal life on July 5, 2013. She was daughter of the late Otis T. Cooper, Sr. and the late Ruth Alexander Cooper Gamble. She was predeceased in death by her only brother, Otis T. Cooper, Jr.
