Looking for 'good junk'

Cassandra Mickle (center), an art teacher at Stover Middle School, has been collecting "good junk" for years. The "good junk" includes Styrofoam meat trays, egg cartons, old magazines, containers with lids, toilet and paper towel tubes and other items. During the past few years, students have used "good junk" items to make creative pieces of art. Due to recent budget cuts, Mickle said she has relied more and more on these items – much of which is donated by the community -- for her art classes. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Thetis Strock McCreight, 90, of Camden and Magnolias Assisted Living in Summerville were held Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Rowan Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In August you ran an enlightening editorial on the U.S. government's revenue, appropriations, deficit, and debt levels for fiscal year 2011. By eliminating eight zeroes from each figure, thereby reducing trillions to tens of thousands, you brought the picture down to a scale the hypothetically typical Smith family could relate to; and you reasonably concluded that the unfortunate Smiths would "be headed for financial oblivion."

According to an article by Martin L. Cahn in the Chronicle-Independent dated Oct. 26, 2011, Councilman Walter Long, in reference to the TIF district, stated to Councilman Willard Polk: "This even includes a piece of property that you and your wife have asked about and that is the old railroad station." Asked about? Perhaps he should be more accurate. I -- not my husband -- worked for approximately two years to acquire "that old railroad station" for the city, and CSX agreed. Five generations of love

Braelyn Olivia Privette was born July 15, 2011, becoming the fifth living generation of her family. She is the daughter of Alyssa Carter and Josh Privette. Braelyn's great-grandma Frances B. Robinson, 89, is known as "Grandma" to 18 children, "Great-Grandma" to 44 children, and now a proud "Great-Great Grandma" to one. The Camden Garden Club to host November meeting Monday

The Camden Garden Club will hold its next meeting Monday at Proctor Hall. There have been many meetings here in the past and it's perfect for the program scheduled. This month, a randomly selected group of members will make arrangements with the flowers, greenery, and containers that will be provided for them. This allows members to get hands on experience and have fun at the same time. Afterwards, the club will critique and judge the creations.
