Funeral service for Herbert Lee Griswold, 80, will be held Thursday at 3:00 pm. at Wateree Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Everett Recconu will officiate. The state of Alabama recently took a step towards righting one of the most egregious miscarriages of justice ever perpetrated in this country, issuing posthumous pardons to three members of the "Scottsboro Boys," who were wrongly accused in 1931 of raping two white women on a train. Eight of the nine charged were swiftly convicted and sentenced to death by an all-white jury, with a mistrial being declared for the ninth, 13-year-old Roy Wright.
North Central Middle School students in Mrs. Stogner's seventh grade science class had a guest visitor from the University of Notre Dame. Emily Amenson, a Ph.D candidate in Analytical and Physical Chemistry at Notre Dame, challenged students to learn all while having fun doing it. "The students loved learning more about acids and bases using indicators (litmus paper, ph paper and phenolphthalein) in order to determine relative ph," said Stogner.
After struggling on offense in a season-opening loss to Buford, the North Central girls found what it was searching for on that end of the floor, only to come up short in a 38-31 loss to McBee last Thursday.
The Camden Garden Club will hold its next meeting today at the home of Sandy Shull. This is always a special meeting due to the time of year. It doesn't matter how old someone may be, there will be excitement and energy filling the air with the anticipation of Christmas. Although there will be no program this month, it is a perfect meeting to bring prospective new members.
Another burglary in east Camden, another set of suspects. For the second time in as many days, the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) arrested two suspects Wednesday after they were caught burglarizing an east Camden home. According to a KCSO press release, a homeowner walked into her home and saw three people as they fled carrying a television and other items.
