Helping Mr. Romney with his NAACP speech

Dear Mitt Romney: I was pleased to hear that you have accepted an invitation to speak in July before the 103rd convention of the NAACP in Houston. In anticipation of that event, I have taken the liberty of writing a speech for you. It's only a beginning, space limitations being what they are, but it should get you off to a solid start and you can take it from there. So, here it is:

Leave kids out of child support fight

Dear Annie: I've been a stepmother to two lovely girls, now 12 and 17, since they were very young. My husband gladly pays child support on time without fail. The girls have different mothers who raise their children in opposite ways, yet in both cases, it's rare that the child support actually reaches the child.

Road diet

Camden residents will have a chance to voice their opinions soon on two major transportation projects slated for the town -- a proposed "road diet" for Camden's Broad Street and an official truck route around the city. Both of them could have a major impact on the city for years to come, so we hope citizens who have a particular point of view will voice their feelings July 10 at Camden High School.

The union bailout

We all know how the Obama administration likes to portray the auto bailout: a generous infusion of money enabled the government to save General Motors and Chrysler. Jobs that would otherwise have disappeared were rescued by this taxpayer-funded largesse. It was expensive, but we had no choice.

Latino voters

Recent polls show, unsurprisingly, that President Obama holds an overwhelming lead among Latino voters, outdistancing Republican Mitt Romney by almost a three-to-one margin. Part of this is because of Obama's political posturing towards Hispanics, but part is also due to the GOP's failure to offer programs that appeal to the country's fastest-growing group. It follows the same trend that holds with African-American voters, who favor Obama -- or any other Democrat, for that matter -- by almost 90 percent.
