Politician's stories

President Obama and Mitt Romney are criss-crossing the country on their campaigns, making all sorts of claims about what they've done and will do. What they're doing is playing fast and loose with the truth, which isn't unusual for politicians. In trying to enhance their records and cast doubt on each other, they're quoting statistics out of context, making misleading statements about their respective records and generally acting like people who aren't exactly under the influence of truth serum.

Pancake breakfast held to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network

A pancake breakfast fundraiser will be held June 23 from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Fatz Cafe in Camden. A breakfast and silent auction will be held to support the Children's Miracle Network and Miss Lancaster Teen Hanna Bowers, a Camden native. Partisan rancor

We've bemoaned on many occasions the incivility and partisan rancor of today's political scene, but we can't lay all the blame at the feet of the candidates and office-holders. If the electorate demanded more bipartisanship and more decency during campaigning, candidates would bend to those desires. Coldwell Banker’s Camden office part of NRT purchase

NRT LLC, a subsidiary of Realogy Holdings Corp., recently purchased Coldwell Banker United Realtors, including its office in Camden. According to Elise Ramer, NRT's senior public relations specialist for the Southeast, more than 400 Coldwell Banker agents are affected by the purchase. Other Midlands offices include Blythewood, Chapin, Irmo, Lake Murray, Lake Wateree, Lexington and Sumter/Shaw, Ramer said.

CCTC aims to go tobacco free in 2016 with grant

Central Carolina Technical College (CCTC) plans to make its campuses 100 percent smoke- and tobacco-free by Fall 2016, thanks to a $5,000 grant from Legacy. Legacy is the organization responsible for the national "truth" smoking prevention campaign. Through the grant, CCTC plans to encourage students, faculty and administrators to adopt the 100 percent smoke- and tobacco-free policy, according to a press release from the college.

First Palmetto acquires South State Bank branches

First Palmetto Bank, headquartered in Camden, announced Wednesday it has entered into an agreement to purchase two South Carolina branch locations from South State Bank. According to a press release, the new branches are in Loris and Little River, and expands First Palmetto's presence in Horry County.
