There are a number of things around your house that can be deadly to your cats and dogs, some you may know, and some may be surprising. Some are even in your kitchen cabinets and refrigerator. Dr. Dorothy Black, clinical assistant professor at the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, shares some enlightening information about common food items that may be toxic to your pet.

Camden writer named Artist Fellow

Kathryn Etters Lovatt, of Camden, is one of three women awarded an Individual Artist Fellowship from the S.C. Arts Commission Board. Lovatt, Nancy Ancrom of Columbia and Marcy Jo Yonkey-Clanton of Irmo each received $5,000. Lovatt earned the award for prose writing. Ancrom and Yonkey-Clanton work in poetry and dance choreography, respectively.

KC Clemson Club outlines fall plans

Lt. William E. Johnson Jr.

In 2010, Broadus R. Littlejohn, a Spartanburg collector, gave Wofford College a very large collection of books, pamphlets, documents and manuscripts. Among his gift were more than two dozen Civil War letters and a diary Lt. William E. Johnson Jr. of Liberty Hill kept from May 1864 until June 1865 while he was a Union prisoner-of-war.

KC Library updates website

Earlier this month, visitors to the Kershaw County Library website saw a change. A pretty big change. The Library updated its website in an effort to improve and promote its digital side. Created by Columbia-based Cyberwoven, and funded in part through a grant from the Central Carolina Community Foundation, the new site promotes events and programs while making digital resources easier to navigate.

Mrs. Clara Nelson Wood, 90, of 530 Longtown Rd, Lugoff, SC passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, June 22, 2015. She was a graduate of Benedict College and she retired as a teacher from the Kershaw County Public School System. Funeral services for Mrs. Wood will be held at 11 a.m. today, June 26, 2015 at Sutton Branch Baptist Church, 420 Sutton Branch Road, Lugoff, with interment in the church cemetery. Public viewing was Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 2-7 p.m.
