Priorities

I would like to address several concerns that I have as a taxpayer and a concerned citizen. We moved here a few years ago due to the charm, laidback living, and the way everyone took pride in their community. I have been very concerned over all the vacant buildings, one in particular: the old Camden Middle School. It is not only an eyesore, but could be a hot spot for crime and vandalism. This is not the type of first impression of our town that we want to give.

Political polls

Like voters across the United States, we in Kershaw County are in the midst of being pummeled by almost constant "poll news." It seems that nearly every day there is a new political poll proving that one candidate or the other is the strongest choice for the White House. During the entire Republican primary, various candidates have pointed to polls showing them as most likely to defeat President Obama in November. Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich are both touting themselves as the only member of the GOP who can unseat Obama in the fall.

Pedaling forward

So where do we go from here? How much are we willing to spend without the help of a third party to improve our city and county? Can we afford to maintain what we build? What kind of recreational/tourism improvements will make a lasting impact on all of the citizens not just one group?

Editorial: KershawHealth deal

If people in Kershaw County had their druthers, they'd probably prefer that KershawHealth, the facility that grew out of the old Kershaw County Memorial Hospital, would be locally owned.
