Funeral services for Anita Gibbons Ardis, 97, formerly of Summerton, S.C., will be held Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church, Lugoff, S.C. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Summerton, S.C. The Rev. John Mims will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, S.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 218, Lugoff, S.C. 29078.

Jessie Mae "Bell" Holiday

Mrs. Jessie Mae "Bell" Holiday, 86, of Hampton, Virginia, and formerly of Camden, entered into eternal rest on Friday, may 3, 2013. Born in Lee County she was daughter of the late Bishop Nelson and Missionary Lois Bradford. A Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, at Mount Calvary Holiness Church, Rembert, with burial in church cemetery. Mrs. Holiday will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. for viewing. Brown's Funeral Home, Camden is serving the Holiday family.

Al Neuharth

The term "visionary" is sometimes overused these days, but it can truly be applied to Al Neuharth, who transformed the newspaper business back in 1982 with the advent of USA Today. Born into hardscrabble circumstances in South Dakota, he rose to become chairman of Gannett, which became the most profitable company in newspaper history. He was flamboyant and had expensive tastes, always dressing in gray, black and white, which prompted one Washington Post writer to say he looked "like a Vegas pit boss dressed up for Wayne Newton's funeral."
