Miss Green and Gold pageant Thursday

North Central High School's 2013 Miss Green and Gold, Madeline Pate (above), will be crowning the new 2014 Miss Green and Gold on Thursday in NCHS' auditorium. The pageant begins at 6 p.m. and tickets are available for purchase at the school and from contestants. This year the pageant will feature a "Blast form the Past" theme for the 29 contestants. There will also be eight student talent acts competing for the talent show portion of the evening. Tickets prices are reserved seating: $10; advanced: $6; and at the door: $8.

SAFE returns $2 million to members

SAFE Federal Credit Union members received extra benefits December 31, 2013, when bonus dividends and loan interest rebates totaling $2 million were posted to accounts. Deposit accounts, including certificates, received a 20 percent bonus based on dividends received in 2013. Loan accounts (except credit cards) received a 7 percent interest rebate based on total interest paid in 2013.

Thank the road crews

I would like to commend the S.C. Department of Transportation, city of Camden and Kershaw County road crews for their work during last week's snow/ice storm. I and many of our deputies were on the roads and found them to be in better shape than we expected. I also appreciate the hard work of the various power companies for preparing for a snow/ice event by keeping trees trimmed away from power lines.
