The city of Camden's idea to have a free concert April 23 to observe the opening of the new Town Green is a great idea, and it will indeed be a festive event that will show off the new facility and its attractions. Unfortunately, planning for the event didn't go as smoothly as it should have, and local food merchants ended up both hurt and aggrieved over the way things were initially planned. They had a right to be disgruntled.

During this past Tuesday evening's Camden City Council meeting, it was both refreshing and encouraging to see so many folks at the meeting and most particularly to hear from those who spoke during the public forum segment of the meeting. I certainly applaud all who were there. It is the right of every citizen to be able to speak about those things that affect their lives and their community.
It's budget season at City Hall. This is the time of year that we review our previous budget and formulate a new one. I'm proud to say that our 2010-2011 numbers are projected to come in under budget, and our new budget will pass without requiring any tax increases.

Mr. and Mrs. Wylie Clint Stockman celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 27, 2011 at a party with family and friends. Wylie and Betty were married April 5, 1961. They have four children, Timmy Stockman, Lynda Watson (Butch), Becky Whitehouse (Randy), and Jason Stockman (Bridget) all of Lugoff. They are the proud grandparents of eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. They will also celebrate with a trip to Memphis, Tenn. in April.
Funeral Mass for Gerardina Corona Cabot, 95, of Camden, will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Final Commendation and Farewell Prayers will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Father Francis Travis will officiate. The Rosary will be recited on Friday at 5:30 p.m. with visitation following until 8:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff.
