CMA cadet earns Eagle Scout title

Nick Marullo of Troop 38 from Camden Military attained the rank of Eagle Scout April 18. His project entailed building, replacing, and placing descriptive and directional signs at Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site. Historic Camden Executive Director Joanna Craig was especially pleased with the three descriptive "way" signs for the cannons, blacksmith forge, and dugout canoe. Signs by Colt helped with this project and deserved special thanks. Nick is from Raleigh, N.C., and plans to attend The Citadel this fall after graduating from Camden Military Academy. President Obama is in many ways a gifted speaker; he handles himself well in front of large crowds, and he seems always ready with a nifty and memorable line. At the interfaith worship service in Boston only days after the horrid bombing, the president brought those in attendance to their feet when he said, "If they sought to intimidate us, to terrorize us," and then he paused for dramatic effect, almost in the rhythmic way some ministers do, before delivering the great line, "it should be pretty clear right now they picked the wrong city to do it."

Still moving foward

The present concern of the city council, working with the Camden Business Alliance led by Jonathan Bazinet and Patricia Richardson, remains our downtown. Without question, the Lowes/Walmart/Kmart shopping district on the west side of town will continue to thrive, as it should, but for most people driving into Camden off I-20, downtown Broad Street sets the tone of who we are and makes a statement about our community identity.
