• Betty White is one of the funniest women in the entertainment business, and at 91 she has set a record for having the longest television career of any woman. Starting in 1939, when TV was still a novelty, White has starred in a number of shows and never fails to bring laughs to her audience. She's been at it for 74 years, and we wish her many more.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Ryan Chadrick Sizemore, 23, of Elgin, will be held at a later date in Oak Hill, West Virginia. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel.
Joyce Brown Bennett, age 65, of Baytown, Texas, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2013 at MD Anderson Cancer Center after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was born on June 24, 1948 in Camden, South Carolina to R. Henry and Nettie Leese Ogburn Brown. Joyce grew up in Camden, she attended the Camden area schools and went on to graduate from the University of South Carolina.
One of the things about being a healthcare CEO is that you become the very visible face of the organization. In many cases, the public believes you are closely involved with everything that happens within the walls of the organization. Unfortunately, that does a great disservice to the hundreds of employees and volunteers and the difference they make in the lives of people every day. CEOs provide vision, leadership and support of the organization's mission, but it's everyday employees who execute that mission.

In a business landscape that changes in the blink of an eye, it's not unusual to see companies come and go. Some that have been around for decades can't keep up with the new marketplace, and they die. Start-ups come wheeling into existence and in a matter of a few months become worth billions of dollars in market capitalization. Few people are surprised when long-standing corporations become "buggy whip companies," the original term given to companies that were overtaken by time and technology.
Funeral services for Jeffery Arlo Chapman, 44, will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. Mark Bredholt will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the family.
At the outset, let me stipulate that 99.999 percent -- or more -- of all the words uttered by politicians are thoroughly forgettable, and that they usually are forgotten nearly as soon as they are spoken.

Among the animals available for adoption at the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter are Leta, a 3-month-old German Shepherd mix male and a black and a female Tabby cat. The adoption donation includes spaying or neutering.
