Friday to be half day for KCSD students

The Kershaw County School District will have a half day for students Friday, the last day of student attendance before the holiday break. Staff will work a regular schedule. Students in 3-and 4-year-old developmentally delayed and 4-year-old kindergarten classes will not attend.

Santa to ride through Lugoff

The Lugoff Fire Department will have the honor of escorting Santa Claus through the neighborhoods in Lugoff this year. Santa will be escorted through different areas of the Lugoff community each night this week. Several residents of Lugoff have requested this event return to the community so children can have the opportunity to see the "Jolly One" before he comes on Christmas Night, LFD Chief Dennis Ray said.

King Haiglar Garden Club celebrates holiday season with Christmas tea, ornament exchange

The King Haiglar Garden Club celebrated its Christmas Tea and Ornament Exchange on Monday, Dec. 12. Judy Smith hosted the tea at 1819 Hobkirk Court in Camden. Linda Shaylor, Sandra Lease, and Mary Nelle Gore co-hosted the gathering. Members were reminded to bring a gift-wrapped ornament to exchange. There was no horticulture or arrangements. Garden maintenance for December is to be done by Cathy Moss and Mary Acken. Those attending enjoyed this festive time with other members and guests!

Funeral services for Betty Lane Swann, 79, of Camden, will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Wateree Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev's Everett Reconnu and Bobby J. Now the rubber meets the road

November 4 is past, and statewide elections have been decided. As I have discussed in earlier columns, I am always intrigued, and even a little amused, with the amount of rhetoric that is aimed at education during election time. Now that the votes have been cast, there are a lot of important educational issues hanging in the air that will need to be resolved by newly elected office holders. The decisions made will have significant and lasting impact.
