Safety of all kinds -- Internet, boating, fire and highway -- was a key topic for youngsters attending the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) STARS Camp. Priester comes to aid of travelers in distress

Some people deserve recognition for going "above and beyond" and Al Priester, who runs AAA Towing in Lugoff, is one of them. My family and I were traveling from North Carolina to Georgia on Memorial Day when the transmission burned up in our car. We were on I-20 in Lugoff and Al was there a few minutes after calling roadside assistance. We weren't able to get a rental car so he took us to a hotel and said to call him if we needed anything. That meant a lot to us, being in a new place without a car.

Not so transparent

President Obama, who promised the most transparent administration in history, has delivered perhaps the least transparent. Following the trend of other recent presidents, Obama has kept a tight lid on the press, rarely interacting with reporters in a spontaneous fashion and instead relying on the spin of his White House press directors. And it has gotten worse the longer Obama has been in office; one report last week indicated that the administration was denying access on a variety of subjects with increasing regularity.
