Services for Clyde I. Williams, Jr., 62, of Lugoff, will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Rowan Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Lugoff with the Rev. Phil McCoy officiating. Phyllis P. Tait

Phyllis Palmer Tait passed away on April 30, 2011, at the Bay Village retirement community in Sarasota, Florida. She had a lung ailment. She was 89 years old. Her husband of 65 years, George P. Tait, passed away in March 2009.

Pets of the week -- May 6, 2011

Among the animals available for adoption at the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter are an 8-week-old female, gray and white domestic medium-haired kitten and a 3-month-old male Larbrador mix puppy. The adoption donation includes spaying or neutering. The shelter, located at the south end of Fair Street and managed by the Kershaw County Humane Society, is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Dog attacks

We were glad to see recently that a 10-year-old girl from Batesburg-Leesville near Columbia is making progress in recovering from an attack by a vicious pit bull in which the dog almost tore her right arm off. She has undergone a series of operations, according to news reports, and could have been killed on the day of the attack if a deputy had not responded quickly and killed the dog. According to that same report, since November there have been six separate violent incidents in South Carolina involving pit bulls, including two in which the victims died and four others ...

** Thomas Ravenel, the former state treasurer who served prison time for cocaine distribution, now stars in a reality television show called "Southern Charm." Ravenel stumbles through the show in a haze of alcohol and bad judgment. He and his girlfriend, who's 30 years his junior, recently had a baby in Florida. Ravenel says he intends to revive his political career by running for the U. S. Senate from the Palmetto State. The guys in Vegas would probably lay some long odds on his chances for success.
