The Dance Place, the official Cecchetti USA Ballet Exam Center for South Carolina is pleased to announce the second annual Cecchetti Ballet Exam Session to be held on May 26 and 27. Students of both The Dance Place and The Studio at Gander Hill will be examined by National Senior Examiner, Deborah Vinton. Vinton, Fellow of Cecchetti USA and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance, London, England and holder of the Maestro Cecchetti Final Diploma, will be coming from Sarasota, Fla., in order to examine local students from Kershaw County.

The Olde English District Commission in partnership with the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County will hold "Open Your Art to the World" workshop Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fine Arts Center located at 810 Lyttleton Street, Camden. This is the third of five in a series of workshops to discuss opportunities for artists, artisans, crafters and food entrepreneurs to expand their retail and e-commerce potential.
Miss Erin Leigh Welsh of Camden and Mr. Curtis Joshua Cousins of Sumter were united in marriage on May 18, 2012 at Sans Souci Farm in Sumter. Reverend Jimmy Atkerson, grandfather of the bride and Reverend Walter Shealy, grandfather of the groom, officiated the 6 p.m., double-ring ceremony. A reception followed at San Souci Farm Pavilion.

• It's satisfying to see a future generation of leaders in training. Junior Leadership Kershaw County recently graduated its 24th class of youth, who completed a year-long program of team-building and leadership development activities. We congratulate the graduates of this year's Junior Leadership academy, which represents Camden, North Central and Lugoff-Elgin high schools and Camden Military Academy, and commend the Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce, Kershaw County School District and Camden Military Academy for their joint sponsorship of this program.
I meet several times a year with the district's Student Cabinet, a group comprised of student government leaders from all four grade levels at each of our high schools. This group gives me a valuable perspective that I can't really get anywhere else. For example, the Student Cabinet was instrumental in the selection of new technology for our one-to-one computer program. It was actually pretty cool to watch. Mrs. Clara Nelson Wood, 90, of 530 Longtown Rd, Lugoff, SC passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, June 22, 2015. She was a graduate of Benedict College and she retired as a teacher from the Kershaw County Public School System. Funeral services for Mrs. Wood will be held at 11 a.m. today, June 26, 2015 at Sutton Branch Baptist Church, 420 Sutton Branch Road, Lugoff, with interment in the church cemetery. Public viewing was Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 2-7 p.m.
