Taking the plunge

On Jan. 1, the Miss Lake Wateree Scholarship Organization hosted a Polar Bear Plunge at the Retreat at Colonel Creek on Lake Wateree. Participants plunged into the icy waters of Lake Wateree, competing for prizes such as biggest splash, best costumes and biggest charitable contribution.

SC 2014: Are you better off…?

As of today, three public officials have decided not to seek reelection. Several days ago, Kershaw County Councilman Stephen Smoak said he would not run again. Today, Kershaw County Coroner Johnny Fellers and Kershaw County Probate Judge Harriett Pierce announce they are not running for reelection, either.

Two-hour delay for KCSD students Tuesday

The Kershaw County School District announced Monday that, due to a forecast of extreme cold weather and out of an abundance of caution, schools will open on a two-hour delay for students Tuesday. Staff will report at their normal time. Three- and 4-year-old students in morning classes will NOT attend. Breakfast will be served.

Thelma Hargrove

Ms. Thelma Hargrove, 76, of Lugoff, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, December 31, 2013. Born in Kershaw, South Carolina she was the daughter of the late Juanita Hargrove Gaskins. Graveside services were held Saturday, at Bethel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Bethune. Brown's Funeral home, Camden serviced the Hargrove family.
