Arthritis and your pet, how to help

The Aggie family lost a beloved member when Reveille VII, the retired mascot of Texas A&M University, died last week. Ever since her arrival in Aggieland, Reveille VII, a female American Collie, had been receiving the best care available at the Small Animal Hospital at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Science (CVM). Stacy Eckman, a lecturer at the CVM, had been treating Rev for arthritis since last August, when Rev's caregivers, Tina and Paul Gardner, noticed that she was having trouble sitting down like she normally would.

Annual fireworks display

The Lake Wateree Association (LWA) and the Wateree Homeowners Association Fairfield County (WHOA) will sponosr their annual Fourth of July fireworks display on July 4 around 9:15 p.m. LWA officials said the best place to view is from Clearwater Cove Marina. LWA has a long tradition of organizing the fireworks show for the comunity. Donations from the public are encouraged and can be sent to LWA, P.O. Box 2132, Camden, SC 29020. Contributions can also be made on LWA's website at www.lakewatereeassociation.org.

** A new Gallup poll indicates that Americans rank the performance of Congress at the lowest level since polling on the subject began. Only 10 percent of citizens say they have confidence in Congress, with no discernible difference among those who call themselves Democrats and those who say they're Republicans. Congress rates last on a list of 16 institutions, with the American military ranking first. The Gallup organization has been asking opinions of Congress since 1973, and confidence has been less than 20 percent since 2006.
