Still moving foward

The present concern of the city council, working with the Camden Business Alliance led by Jonathan Bazinet and Patricia Richardson, remains our downtown. Without question, the Lowes/Walmart/Kmart shopping district on the west side of town will continue to thrive, as it should, but for most people driving into Camden off I-20, downtown Broad Street sets the tone of who we are and makes a statement about our community identity.

For more than 30 years, the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) has collaborated with regional artists and the Kershaw County School District (KCSD) to bring professional artists into the district to perform, inspire and teach. Recent polls say nearly three-quarters of residents of the two countries support the proposed Keystone XL pipeline project, which would bring oil from the Alberta province of Canada to the United States. The Obama administration and key Democrats have opposed the project.

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies arrested a 40-year-old Fairfield County man Thursday night following a two-hour stand-off with Kershaw County deputies in the cemetery of a church on Springvale Road.

Jessie Mae Holiday

Mrs. Jessie Mae "Bell" Holiday, 86, of Hampton Virginia and formerly of Camden died Friday. Friends may call at 1955 Bunker Hill Road, Elgin at the residence of her son Nathaniel McKenney. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by Browns Funeral Home, Camden which is serving the Holiday family.
