Bachmann's 'submerged' benefits

She's a famous foe of "big government" in her presidential campaign. Yet Rep. Michele Bachmann says it is no big deal that her family is reported to have received several hundred thousand dollars in government benefits. We'll let the voters decide how big of a deal they think it is.

Traffic stop results in seizure of prison contraband

Among the animals available for adoption at the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter are Colt, a 1-year-old neutered shepherd mix dog, and Charlie, a 4-month-old male orange tabby kitten. The adoption donation includes spaying or neutering. The shelter, located at the south end of Fair Street and managed by the Kershaw County Humane Society, is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Priester comes to aid of travelers in distress

Some people deserve recognition for going "above and beyond" and Al Priester, who runs AAA Towing in Lugoff, is one of them. My family and I were traveling from North Carolina to Georgia on Memorial Day when the transmission burned up in our car. We were on I-20 in Lugoff and Al was there a few minutes after calling roadside assistance. We weren't able to get a rental car so he took us to a hotel and said to call him if we needed anything. That meant a lot to us, being in a new place without a car.
