Camden Community Concert Band gears up for Sunday concert in Rectory Square

French Horn player Jacob Adelman practices with the Camden Community Concert Band (CCCB) in preparation for their fall concert. The CCCB begins its 32nd season this Sunday with a concert in Rectory Square Park. The concert begins at 3 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Musical selections will include "Grand March of the First Mississippi Volunteers," "Colonel White's Quickstep," (both written by CCCB member, Emmett Anglin) "Beguine for Band," "Disney Razzamatazz," "Summer in Rio," "Tin Pan Alley," "Tango Fandango" and "The Maestro."

Lutheran women assist Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County

Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (WELCA) at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church used August as mission emphasis month in support of the Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County. In addition to learning about the Clinic and volunteer opportunities, WELCA members hosted an open house on Aug. 23 so that church members could meet the staff and tour the facilities. St Timothy's collected donations for the Clinic throughout August. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provided supplemental funding. Scholarships available to high school seniors, $2.3 million to be distributed

The Elks National Foundation (ENF) "Most Valuable Student Scholarship" applications are now available. The ENF awards $2.3 million each year in college scholarships to a total of 500 high school seniors nationwide through its most valuable student scholarship contest.

DME’s fourth annual Health, Fitness and Conservation Fair to be held Oct. 22

Doby's Mill Elementary School will host its fourth annual Health, Fitness, and Conservation Fair on Oct. 22. The fair is sponsored by Breaker's Cafe staff and the School Improvement Council. The fair will last from 5;30 to 6:30 p.m. Local vendors will be present to showcase healthy food services, health screenings, exercise options and conservation awareness. Roommate’s boyfriend makes living conditions unbearable

Dear Annie: My roommate, "Trish," and I are good friends, and we are both attending the same college. Last spring, her boyfriend spent a lot of time at our apartment. He stayed overnight several times, which made me uncomfortable. I spoke with both of them about it and offered to spend one night a week at my parents' house so they could have the apartment to themselves. Trish agreed, but her boyfriend didn't. He continued to hang out at the apartment even when she wasn't there and liked to walk around in his underwear without a shirt.

Canfor Southern Pine to expand Camden plant

New South Companies LLC will expand its lumber mill in Camden as part of a multi-year plan to upgrade the company's equipment. As the company focuses on improving its productivity and efficiency, officials said, it will evaluate the possibility of reinstituting a second shift at the facility.
