Large crowds expected for Heritage celebration
David Ray, son of the late Angus and Annie Ray, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013, after a brief illness. He is survived by his partner, Artie Folk; brothers and sisters, Rendel Ray, Elaine Robertson (Bruce), Roger Ray, Charles Ray, Benny Ray (Vivian), Debbie Blackwell (Jim); and twenty three nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Susie Moseley and Goldie Moseley.
Sylvia (Sibby) Wood and Sarah duPont invite community members to the screening of Amazon Gold, an Amazon Aid Foundation Production in association with Americas Business Council Foundation on Saturday. The film will begin at 7 p.m. in the Wood Auditorium at the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County. Admission to the screening is free of charge.
All three Keshaw County high school girls' volleyball teams will begin post-season play which begins tonight in Boonetown and continues on Tuesday at Camden and Lugoff-Elgin.

• There's a bit of confusion and disagreement among Camden City Council members and officials about just how quickly the development process for the former Maxway building site should move, but one thing is clear: without any improvement at all, the site already looks better than it did when the rotting building stood there. It will be interesting to see what finally happens, but we'll offer a tip of the hat to council members for proceeding with the demolition.
It happened in Memphis. A lot of history and interesting stuff occurs in that magical city that sits grandly on the Mississippi River. Elvis held court there, the blues grew up there and barbecue is queen. Elvis, of course, is still king.
Neely Catherine Gilbert and John Thomas Crocker were united in marriage on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at five o'clock in the afternoon. The outdoor ceremony was held behind DeBordieu Clubhouse overlooking the marsh in Georgetown, SC. It was officiated by the Reverend Martha Hedgepeth of Christ Episcopal Church in Charlotte, NC. A reception hosted by the bride's parents followed the ceremony at the DeBordieu Clubhouse.
KERSHAW – Funeral service for Jerry Francis Gambrell, 70, will be held Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. at Lugoff Church of God with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff.
SUMTER - Fred L. Hatfield Sr., age 74, beloved husband of Dorothy Truesdale Hatfield, died on Friday, October 25, 2013 at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC.

Camden Elementary School (CES) of the Arts third-graders Emily Cantey and Greer Younghans enjoy a ride on a camel during CES' Family Reading Night Oct. 10. Sam's Path Mobile Petting Zoo and Live Nativities brought the camel to help celebrate CES' reading theme of ancient Egypt. Students were allowed to ride the camel for a few minutes as other families played on the playground, enjoyed a spaghetti dinner or bought books from CES' book fair. The school also hosted an archeological dig.
